The nuclear reseach reactor ESSOR and the INE Complex

The ESSOR reactor was a heavy water moderated and cooled nuclear reactor. The INE Complex is a facility involved in the nuclear decommissioning of the JRC Ispra site.

The ESSOR reactor began operations in 1969 and was shut down for safety reasons in 1983. There are currently many facilities and laboratories in the INE Complex that are used for research and safe storage of still present nuclear material, such as fuel pond structures, hot cells, various laboratories, and other auxiliary buildings.
