A commonly used structural system for buildings are flat slabs supported by column. The SlabSTRESS project tests real scale flat slab building under seismic and cyclic loadings.
The tests make use of the unique reaction wall the largest in Europe. The project will contribute to the development of new rules for the design and detailing of flat-slab structures subjected to earthquake and gravity loads, and ultimately improve their safety. This is just one example of testing what effects earthquakes have on structures and material.
