JRC has developed a series of containment and surveillance techniques for nuclear safeguards using laser based systems. Laser scanners can create images of nuclear facilities with millimetre accuracy. The comparison of images allows for the detection of possible changes. Undeclared changes could indicate a diversion of nuclear material.
