About the JRC

The JRC is involved in all stages of the policy cycle. Its work informs the design of new policy initiatives and legislative proposals but also underpins their implementation in close interaction with Member States, European stakeholders and international partners.

JRC Sites

The JRC is spread across six sites in five different countries within the EU: Brussels and Geel (Belgium), Ispra (Italy), Karlsruhe (Germany), Petten (The Netherlands), Seville (Spain). 

What can satellites tell us?

Earth observation is the gathering of information about planet Earth’s physical, chemical and biological systems via remote sensing technologies, usually involving satellites carrying imaging devices. Earth observation is used to monitor and assess the status of, and changes in, the natural and man-made environment.
