The use of coal for the European economy has gradually declined since the 1990s. In their energy plans 21 countries have committed to phase out coal, lignite and peat by 2030.

This facility is one of the few in Europe that carries out performance tests on high pressure tanks for hydrogen vehicles. These tests simulate the service conditions that a tank of a typical hydrogen vehicle experiences during its operational lifetime. This is done by refuelling the tank, followed by a parking period and an emptying phase, which represents hydrogen consumption during driving.
