The Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) is a tool that uses satellite images to map and monitor human settlements. GHSL is able to map and monitor human settlements in a detailed, measurable and globally consistent way. This information supports policies and initiatives to prevent and reduce disaster risk, eradicate extreme poverty and promote sustainable development.
