Are we making the most of the massive amounts of data our satellites provide on our atmosphere, marine environment and land? How do we turn what we see into decisive policies?
Our knowledge of the current extent of human settlements is incomplete
The Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) is a tool that uses satellite images to map and monitor human settlements. GHSL is able to map and monitor human settlements in a detailed, measurable and globally consistent way. This information supports policies and initiatives to prevent and reduce disaster risk, eradicate extreme poverty and promote sustainable development.
