The Whole Body Counter Laboratory

JRC's Whole Body Counter is part of  the nuclear decommissioning unit's radiation protection laboratories and monitors radioactive contamination within the human body.

One method of determining a worker's absorbed dose from radioactive substances inhaled or consumed is to measure radioactive material in the human body. The Whole Body Counter uses a direct method of detection of gamma rays emitted by radionuclides inside the human body to reveal internal contamination.
