An old technology revisited to save lives at the sea. JRC Scientists attempt are testing helium aerostatic balloon equipped with sophisticated tools such as radar and sensors to spot and rescue boat with immigrants which cross the Mediterrean Sea. Technology development has to go towards an efficient, reliable, low cost and easy managed system for maritime surveillance.
