Are we making the most of the massive amounts of data our satellites provide on our atmosphere, marine environment and land? How do we turn what we see into decisive policies?
At the European Commission atmospheric observatory, the Joint Research Centre monitors classical air pollutants as required by European legislation.
To monitor climate and health, sophisticated optical and physical characterization of aerosols is carried out. The Observatory data are used as benchmark to understand changing emission patterns and provide valuable information on greenhouse gasses from the Po Valley, as measured from a 100-m tower, to the International Carbon Observation System.
